Effect of methionine hydroxy analog (MHA) or dextrose supplementation on physiological responses and behaviours of sheep under transportation stress

Abstract Transportation causes sheep to experience stress and body weight loss due physical during the process. This study aimed evaluate administration of protected methionine hydroxy analog (MHA) or dextrose before transportation on loss, physiological responses, post-transportation behaviours sheep. The used 42 thin-tailed (body 18.28±2.11 kg) that were divided into three treatments, i.e., without MHA/dextrose supplementation (P1, control), MHA 0.24 g/kg (P2), (P3). Sheep transported for a 6-hour journey in commercial vehicles. results showed P2 P3 significantly reduced (P<0.05) length time reach their initial transportation. decreased pulse respiratory rates as compared P1. resting behaviour P1 was higher than P3, while standing P1, which indicated an improvement condition P3. It can be concluded improves bodyweight recovery time, conditions, under stress.
